“What
lies behind us and what lies before us
are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
Emerson
Next to oxygen, water is the most important element
in sustaining life. It makes up over 70% of our body
weight. Almost everything in our body depends on water.
It is:
Involved in every body process including digestion,
absorption, circulation and elimination
Keeps blood thin and free flowing
Distributes body heat
Acts as a lubricant for moving parts
Moves nutrients throughout the body
Handles the elimination of waste
Keeps our brain functioning
We should be drinking approximately 8-12 glasses of
water per day (64 to 96 ounces). Of course this varies
with the size of the person, the activity level and
what the temperature is that day. If you are not drinking
sufficient quantities of water you may suffer from;
headaches, fatigue, allergies, asthma, constipation
or urinary problems. What about the quality of the water?
Almost every major city in the U.S. adds chlorine and
fluoride to the local water for purification. These
two chemicals are deadly poisons to be avoided at all
costs. Do not drink tap water. In fact, the EPA’s
Science Advisory Board reported that “drinking
water in the U.S. ranks as one of the top health risks.”
According to the National Cancer Institute, just drinking
chlorinated water increases our risk of certain cancers
by as much as 80%. Another water factor to consider
is your bathing or showering. If your water is not being
filtered, you are probably absorbing more chemicals
through your lungs and skin than what you would drink
in a day. In order to enjoy our health we must implement
ways in which we can have an abundance of clean, pure
water. There is simply no substitute!
Close to 100,000,000 pounds of toxic waste a year ends
up in the U.S. water supply.
1 out of every 5 Americans is drinking chemically treated
tap water daily.
There are close to 500,000 cases of illness each year
is attributed to contaminated water.
“First ask what you would be; then do what you
must do.”
Epictetus
The importance of using and drinking “clean”
water cannot be stressed enough. Let’s look at
some of the options.
One way to remove all toxins from your water supply
would be to add a complete system to your house (before
the water enters your house). This may be costly but
it’s also the most efficient way.
Purchase units that you can install under your sink
(reverse osmosis).
Invest in a good water distiller that includes a charcoal
filter. Since distilled water contains no minerals,
make sure you’re getting enough minerals from
other sources.
Invest in an ozone machine. They can be used to purify
water for drinking or bathing.
Check out the portable water filters that sit on top
of your counter. This is probably the cheapest and easiest
way to get started.
For the shower, add a filter that fits onto the pipe.
Remember, unless you filtered the water consider it
suspect even if it comes in a sealed bottle that says
pure spring water!
